HISTORY
OF CONTACT |
 |
On March 27, 1967, a unique service became available in
the Dallas community - a life-saving program that could help
individuals through a personal crisis in their lives.
CONTACT Crisis Line became the first center in the United
States and the model agency for a nationwide network of
crisis intervention lines known as CONTACT USA.
Adjunct to the telephone crisis intervention service,
CONTACT's Emergency Aid Program, established in 1983, is the
only Dallas area provider of free emergency aid
transportation to those individuals in dangerous or
life-threatening situations. Everyday, police, fire, medical
and mental health professionals refer people in need to
CONTACT.
In response to the difficult issues and problems
confronting today's youth, CONTACT operates a dedicated
crisis line to serve young adults - Teen CONTACT.
Established by CONTACT in 1986, Teen CONTACT helps thousands
of teens annually through the crisis line and community
outreach.
In March of 2004, CONTACT Crisis Line celebrated 37
uninterrupted years of providing free, immediate and
confidential 24-hour one-on-one telephone crisis
intervention and referral services from a trained,
empathetic listener to individuals struggling with feelings
of isolation, desperation, confusion, fear, loneliness,
among other things.
CONTACT is one of only 195 crisis centers out of 600 in the
nation to be certified and accredited by the American
Association of Suicidology.
CONTACT Crisis Line is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit agency funded
by contributions from religious and civic organizations,
individuals, foundations, and corporations. |
